We spent 4 glorious days at the Stanmore Bungalows in Valparai and this is the place to go to if you’re looking for a combination of relaxed vacation and a nature/wildlife fix. With stunning views, excellent hospitality and pleasant weather – Valparai is one place that is untouched by commercialism.
About: Valparai is a Taluk and hill station in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, India. It is located 3,500 feet above sea level on the Anaimalai Hills range of the Western Ghats, at a distance of 100 km from Coimbatore and 65 km from Pollachi. There are 40 hairpin bends on the way up to Valparai, so buckle up on your way there! Most of the mountainous expanses that come under this hill station are still off limits, almost 170 years after the first human settlement in Valparai. It is a hill station where the man made tea and coffee plantations co-exists with the dense forests, wild waterfalls and whispering streams.
Valparai is a newly explored tourist spot that is fast gaining popularity. Entering the forest and tea gardens of Valparai you can enjoy the presence of many streams, dams, valleys, waterfalls, high mountains, grass lands, flora and fauna.
Valparai is unlike other tourist spots such as Ooty, Munnar, Kodaikanal etc because of its unique nature. Ecotourism is given more importance than regular form of tourism. Chinnakallar in Valparai records maximum rainfall next to Cherrapunji. Valparai is the only hill station in the world which has 12 dams and hydro electric power stations.
